Wow what a weekend we've had! Over the three-day swimming meet organised by Masters Swimming Queensland as part of the 2021 Great Barrier Reef Masters Games the Swimfit crew collected an impressive 26 Individual Medals! And more importantly the award for loudest cheer squad :)
Months ago I think Iain came up with the idea to compete at the Masters Games and he slowly managed to convince a few more to give it a go. Not wanting to miss out we ended up with an awesome crew of Swimfitters either competing for the first time at a pool meet, or for the first time in a long time.
Coming closer to race day the nerves kicked in, but the amazing atmosphere at the pool took some of that away, which left us with a healthy dose of adrenaline to smash our races.
It is just so amazing to see a group of strangers becoming great friends over a shared love for swimming. We won the award of loudest cheer squad simply because we really cared about everyone doing well. Of course also a big thank you to everyone who popped in to cheer us on; David, Kelly, Louise, Nat, Liza's mum and sister and Grantos.
We all have different stories and preparations leading into this event, but we all happily surprised ourselves with the times we swam, the medals won and the fun that we had!
You are all a bunch of superstars and should be so proud of what we all achieved in the pool over the last few days. Let's do it all again at the Pan Pacific Games in November!
